Treasurer to the AUA

Location: Remote with some face-to-face meetings and attendance at the Annual Conference

About this role

We are now accepting expressions of interest for the role of Treasurer to our Board of Trustees.

The AUA is looking  for an experienced and dynamic finance professional to join the Board of Trustees as Treasurer. Together the Treasurer, Secretary, Chair and Vice-Chair, constitute the Officers of the Association. 

This is an opportunity to play a part in steering the strategic direction of the AUA and a great way to enhance your awareness of the higher education sector, develop your skills and knowledge and extend your professional network.

You will be a qualified accountant and a member of the Association, joining on appointment if you are not already a member. You will be an enthusiastic supporter of the mission of the AUA to inspire and enable professionalism in higher education professional services.


You will provide overall guidance to the Board of Trustees on the financial management of the Association, including the charitable activities of the Association and its trading subsidiary, AUA Enterprises Ltd, and advise AUA staff in fulfilling the expectations of our third party clients. 

Responsibilities include:

• Working with the Officers of the Association and the Head of Finance to oversee the preparation of an annual budget, management accounts, and annual audited accounts
• Advising the Board on good financial practice in relation to the activities of the Association
• Advising on opportunities to maximise activities for income generation and reduction of expenditure
• Presenting the accounts of the Association to members at the AGM
• Providing professional guidance and support for the Head of Finance who is a qualified accountant
• Playing a full part in the life of the Association as a member of the Board of Trustees

Currently meetings are being held online in October, February and June with additional shorter meetings in December, April and August. Attendance is also expected at key events such as the AGM, Annual Conference and Exhibition and Annual Lecture.

The role of Treasurer is appointed annually by the Board, but it is hoped that you will hold the role for a minimum of two years.

Remuneration: This is a voluntary role.  The AUA has an expenses policy to cover expenses incurred to attend meetings.  Attendance at the Annual Conference is included.
