About this Event

Despite changes in the law over the years, LGBTQ+ staff and students continue to face major challenges affecting their work, employability and well-being.

This workshop is designed to give participants the chance to ask questions and share ideas in a safe space where relevant curiosity is welcomed.

Topics covered will include: understanding the varied LGBTQ+ experience, the changing language and terminology, intersectionality, and how to be a good ally. We’ll examine the pressure on mental health, juggling multiple identities, particularly being ‘out’ to some groups of friends/colleagues/family, but not to others. The event will also look at strategies for enabling change, being proactive allies, setting the tone as managers and influencing upwards.

Finally, there will be time to develop a personal action plan of what you can do in the workplace to ensure that your LGBTQ+ colleagues and students can thrive at your university.

Who is it for?

This webinar is for all professional services colleagues working in higher education. The webinar will provide an opportunity to explore and discuss the LGBTQ+ experience in higher education institutions and focus on strategies for enabling positive change to create cultures where LGBTQ+ colleagues and students can thrive.
