Professional development at the AUA

What’s on offer at the AUA?

Professional development comes in all shapes and guises.  We have opportunities that all HE professionals can engage with and as a member of the AUA there’s even more opportunities open to you.

Events and conferences

We support your development needs by providing a series of events and conferences throughout the year.  We have our core events like Intro to HE, an essential for every HE professional, our autumn and spring conferences offering a range of development under a topical theme and finally our annual lecture where you can hear a different perspective on a current issue from a high profile speaker.  In addition we offer specialist events which focus on a particular skill, knowledge or HE practice.

Formal qualifications

If you are looking for a formal academic qualification relevant to your career in HE, take a closer look at our Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Administration, Management and Leadership.

Overseas experience

Or are you seeking a different experience or perspective?  Every year we organise a study tour for you to experience HE in another country.  These tours present you with an unparalleled opportunity to see your role within the context of global HE. They are a rewarding experience with personal, professional and institutional benefits.

The 2017 tour is to Germany and Switzerland. To find out more visit the 2017 tour page or contact the tour coordinator Heather Moyes.

“It is a fantastic opportunity to visit overseas institutions to investigate their HE provision and governance processes. It provides a chance to meet the staff and students in a relatively informal way and to share experience and good practice. I would highly recommend any one to apply, because the experience is invaluable.”

Volunteering and getting involved

The AUA is your association and there are a number of ways you can get involved. From local Advocate to Trustee, being a volunteer exposes you to new opportunities that develop skills outside the remit of your day job. It enhances your professional profile by opening up new networks and actively involves you in professionalising the HE environment in which we work.  Interested?  Contact Matthew Maloney our Networks and Membership Officer.
